Title IX

Title IX protects people from discrimination based on sex in education programs or activities that receive Federal financial assistance. Title IX states that: No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.

Palmer ISD Non-Discrimination Policy:

It is the policy of the Palmer Independent School District not to discriminate on the basis of race, color, sex, age, national origin, religion, handicap, or disability in its environment practices as required by Title IV of the Civil Rights Act of 1975, as amended, Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, the Age Discrimination Act of 1975, as amended, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended & the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1992.  If an employee or student believes that he or she has been discriminated against in violation of Title IX, please reference the District’s Title IX Grievance Procedures which are available on the District’s website, in every school site administrative office, and on request from the Superintendent.

Background and Enforcement of Title IX:

Title IX applies to institutions that receive federal financial assistance. Educational programs  that receive federal funds must operate in a nondiscriminatory manner. Title IX obligations and application areas can include: recruitment, admissions, and counseling; financial assistance; athletics; sex-based harassment; treatment of pregnant and parenting students; discipline; single-sex education; and employment. Palmer ISD enforces Title IX to ensure that we comply with the law and thoroughly investigates complaints alleging sex discrimination. A recipient may not retaliate against any person for opposing an unlawful educational practice or policy, and / or participated in any complaint action under Title IX. For a recipient to retaliate in any way is considered a violation of Title IX.
