This school year has gotten off to a wonderful start. I am pleased that there are so many children eager to learn. I wanted to make you aware of a few things that occur weekly in second grade. You will receive a Daily Dog each week which highlights the week’s events. It will also have the weekly spelling list on it. The spelling test will be on Friday. Every week a story will be read in our textbooks and a comprehension test will be given. Building reading stamina is extremely important in Second Grade. Please help your student become a better reader by practicing each night for at least 5 minutes. We will start off the year with only 5 minutes required the first six weeks. Then we may work our way up to 20 minutes by the end of the school year. There will be math chapter assessments after we have completed a unit of study. Reading and math homework will be assigned on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday night, as well as a reading log. There will be a grade given for returning homework, so please help your child get to school with their completed work these three nights. Your student’s graded work will be sent home in a folder for your viewing every week. I will try to immediately send home any paper that has a failing grade. The graded papers folder should come home either Wednesday or Thursday of each week. If any problems occur that need your immediate attention, I will call, text, or send a Remind for your help. I take great pride in handling any and all situations that involve your child. Please give me the opportunity to help your student with any problems or concerns that may arise in our classroom or school. You may call me during my conference time, send a Remind, or e-mail me at firstname.lastname@example.org. I am so excited to have your student in my class this year! May the Force Be with Us!
Thanks, Miss Thompson
