My passion is teaching children how to read.
I graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University in 1974 with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and with minors in teaching reading, elementary art, and kindergarten. I received a Life Certification in Elementary Education Grades 1-8 and a Life Kindergarten Endorsement.
I graduated from Texas Tech University in 1977 with a Master of Reading, receiving a Life Reading Specialist Certification for all grade levels.
At twenty-one years old, I was teaching third grade in Danbury, Texas. Since then, I have taught in other Texas towns including Anton, Midland, Ennis (St. John's Catholic School) and of course, Palmer. I have enjoyed teaching in Palmer for a total of twenty-one years.
I have a total of thirty years of teaching experience. I have taught a variety of ages, grade levels, and subjects including:
two years of self-contained third grade,
two years of self-contained first grade,
one year of departmentalized fourth grade reading,
one year of a combination self-contained fifth/sixth honors class,
nine years of kindergarten,
one year of special education, and
fourteen years of Title I Remedial Reading (including several classes of Title I Remedial Math).
I have been married to my college sweetheart for forty-three years. We have one daughter and two grandchildren. I have enjoyed sewing, quilting, photography, home decorating and organizing, and genealogy. At this time I enjoy my hobbies vicariously through Pinterest -- no time for the real thing.
