Bulldog Basketball 2007-08
The Palmer Bulldogs basketball season has begun and the Bulldogs hope to carry the success they had in football over to the hardwood. The first game came only one day of practice with all players on board. The Bulldogs hosted Arlington Oakridge, one of the premier private schools in the metroplex. The Bulldogs had their hands full with guarding the Division I recruit Chris Babb. Jarrett Stone did a good job guarding him, but in the end the Owls from Oakridge proved to be too much for the Bulldogs who lost 62-29. November 29-December 1, the Bulldogs participated in the Italy Tournament. First out of the gate for the Bulldogs was the Italy Gladiators who have been full strength for the past four weeks. Thomas Rhodes led the Bulldogs with 21 points but it was not enough to defeat the Gladiators and the Bulldogs fell 73-55. Day two of the tournament would prove that the Dogs were continuing to improve with every chance they stepped on the floor. In a defensive battle, the Bulldogs were able to defeat the Milford Bulldogs 45-43. Thomas Rhodes dominated the scoring with 25 points. T.J. Barnes and Jarrett Stone did an excellent job of shutting down Milford’s best offensive player. On Saturday, December 1, the Bulldogs met up with the Ferris Yellowjackets. It was a close battle for the duration. However, in the end the Yellowjackets were able to put our Bulldogs away and take home a 64-51 victory. The Bulldogs have actually only had two days of practice and have played four games thus far. Each week they plan to improve and be ready to compete for a playoff spot in basketball just as they did in football. Every varsity player is reminded daily that “Success is Contagious” and they all believe that good things are going to happen for this year’s team.
